User Interface Design

We design user interfaces for devices, machines, equipment and technical systems, including control panels, mobile devices and IoT platforms. Through our conception and design, we strengthen your brand, ensure optimised operating processes and increase your ROI at various points.

Specialists for UX in the industry

We bring our expertise from over 30 years and more than a thousand industry projects directly into our work.

  • Thanks to our experience, we immediately understand what you are talking about and accelerate processes in your project.
  • We are always technologically up to date and broadly positioned, and are very well versed in the area of standard tools for HMI implementation.
  • We know your specific target groups and challenges, such as typical user roles, time pressure, risks of operating errors with major financial consequences, harsh environmental conditions, often slower hardware, operating safety and unskilled personnel.
  • We ensure more attractive and productive workplaces in the industry.

Seamless overall user experience

Our portfolio is unique:

  • We analyse and design interaction at both hardware and software level - our two disciplines, user interface design and industrial design, flow together here.
  • Thanks to proven UX methods, we not only create a comprehensive, but also a productive and pleasant user experience with your product. This promotes the long-term satisfaction and loyalty of your customers.

User interface design in a nutshell

‘A good UI design improves the use of digital products through intuitive navigation, consistent elements, a responsive layout and clear visual hierarchy. It also considers accessibility for all users, provides interactive feedback mechanisms and reflects the quality of the product through an attractive and appealing design. By adhering to the highest ergonomic standards, an interface is created that makes users' daily work easier. Through these principles, users can quickly find what they are looking for, navigate seamlessly through the product and be confident that their needs are being taken into account, fostering long-term loyalty. From concept to implementation, UI designers guide clients by combining design quality with cost efficiency and a deep understanding of technological trends and developments.’

Our UI designs offer the following benefits

Increase the profits of your products

We conceptualise and design products that are not only aesthetically pleasing and ergonomic to use, but also lead to an increase in your profits.

  • Through proven delivery formats and close collaboration with developers, we ensure a cost-effective realisation of your UI design.
  • An outstanding UI design can justify higher prices for your products and provide differentiators that influence your customers' purchasing decisions.
  • Enthusiastic use of your products promotes customer loyalty and strengthens your corporate image.
  • An intuitive user interface saves time when setting up and operating your machines and systems.

We shape and strengthen your brand

Our user interface design is more than just a functional interface.

  • It is an extension of your corporate identity that brings your values and visions to life - your product becomes a representation of your brand personality even from a distance
  • Through an aesthetic and user-friendly design, we create an overall digital experience.
  • A new ‘brand UI’ visualises the quality promise of your brand and strengthens the trust of your customers.
  • In daily use, your products live up to their promise and also impress in detail.

Ergonomics for better workplaces

Our UI designs are characterised by maximum ergonomics and user-friendliness.

  • Ergonomically designed and optimally positioned user interfaces and control panels promote better posture, make important functions easily accessible and reduce physical strain.
  • Clear, high-contrast displays reduce eye strain and make it easier to recognise and interpret information, minimise risks and support safe working conditions.
  • An intuitive design facilitates quick and precise decisions.
  • Clear and intuitive interfaces reduce the mental strain on users.

Planning, budget and development security

We work according to the Human Centered Design Process. Iterations and feedback loops play a decisive role in the process defined by the standard (ISO 9241-210).

  • This process helps us to develop ‘the right thing at the right time’ - right from the first attempt.
  • An effective design process optimises your development process.
  • User involvement reduces the risk of project failure by helping to identify and address potential problems and weaknesses at an early stage.
  • The market relevance of products is increased as they can be better customised to the actual needs and requirements of the target group.

UI design glossary

HMI
The term HMI, or Human Machine Interface, is often used colloquially for a specific hardware-software combination for controlling machines or devices. It actually stands for a much more abstract user interface or UI, as an intermediary between humans and technology. HMIs are used as soon as you want to interact with a technical system in any way. Traditional examples of user interfaces are buttons, switches or display panels. Today, when we talk about user interfaces or human-machine interfaces, the number of options for how these interfaces can be designed is much greater.

Graphical user interfaces (GUIs)
Machines used to be operated with hardware buttons (hard keys). Thanks to software technology, graphical user interfaces were added later. Graphical user interfaces visualise operating elements and make it possible to display flexible content. GUIs in mechanical engineering were initially operated with soft keys and later via trackpad and keyboard. Today, touch screens are also frequently used. Operating, setting up and servicing the systems is usually carried out via touch panels. Remote solutions that are visualised on PC screens and operated via mouse and keyboard are also available for set-up or servicing. Mobile devices such as tablets and smartwatches are increasingly finding their way into production, where they are used for various tasks (see IIoT and shop floor). Applications for head-mounted displays, such as virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) glasses, are being designed for remote service or training scenarios.

User
Someone who operates an HMI usually does so for a specific reason: they want to benefit from it and complete their work tasks. For this reason, the term user is often used synonymously with user or operator.

Software ergonomics
Software ergonomics (usability engineering, a branch of human-computer interaction) is about designing software that is easy to understand and quick to use.

Interactions
Suitable input methods have now been developed for most of the human senses, from gesture to voice and eye-tracking based technologies. Some user interfaces integrate different interaction possibilities, such as touch screen interactions and voice control on a smartphone. The experience that a user has during an activity, the so-called user experience (UX), should be considered independently of a technology.
